Wozu’s Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, at cool room temperature
  • 1¼ cups granulated sugar, plus ¼ cup for rolling
  • 1 large egg plus 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Oven

  • Set your oven to 350°F.
  • Line your baking sheets with parchment paper so the cookies don’t stick.
  • Have an adult help you with the oven!

2. Mix the Dry Ingredients

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside for later.

3. Cream the Butter & Sugar

  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer (adult help needed!) to beat the butter and 1¼ cups of sugar on medium-high until it looks light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
  • Scrape down the sides of the bowl. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla, then mix again until combined. Slowly beat in the dry ingredients you mixed earlier.

4. Shape the Cookies

  • Pour the remaining ¼ cup of sugar into a small dish.
  • Scoop out dough using a large spoon or cookie scoop
  • Roll each ball in sugar so it’s coated.
  • Place the balls on your baking sheet, leaving 2 inches between them.
  • Gently press down each ball with the bottom of a cup to flatten a little.

5. Bake the Cookies

  • Put the baking sheets in the oven and bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the cookies look set and just start to brown.
  • Let them cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then move to a wire rack to cool completely.

6. Enjoy & Store

  • Once cooled, enjoy your cookies with friends or family!
  • Store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
