Our Steward of the land & water.

Being a steward is more than just focusing on the land, but also engaging with the people.

Hello, my name is Davis Fool Bear and I am the Outdoor Stewardship Program
Manager. I have been with Wozu since June of 2023 as a Office/Programming
Assistant. In 2024 I was still in the position but I was developing the program to what it is now. I was given the opportunity to become the program manager in March of 2025.

I am Dakota and Lakota on both sides of my family as they come from the
Cannonball and Porcupine Communities on Standing Rock. In my earlier years my
family spent time outdoors, but hunting wasn’t a focal point until my uncle introduced me into this whole new world which it would later become my love, passion, and identity.

As life happens and experiences are had at a very young age. I retreated to
hunting as my healthy outlet to get away from daily problems. With everything there is a learning curve; but as fast as I found failure, I also found success.

As I grew into the individual I am today, I found that documenting and sharing my
experiences was also something I found great joy in doing which eventually led to me taking youth out hunting in my current position.

I believe without a doubt today that if I didn’t have the outdoors to lean back on
and use as a healthy outlet. I would not be here to tell this short story due to symptoms of poverty. I also believe through my experiences I can not only relate but hopefully be an example that youth within the reservation can get through their problems but being outdoors.
