Building Stewards today for tomorrow

Ensuring our WOSP Program provides meaningful experiences!

Wozu Inc. is proud to announce that the Outdoor Stewardship Program has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the National Recreation Foundation, with confirmation received on October 1, 2025. This generous support strengthens our ability to provide hands-on learning experiences that connect youth and community members with the land through traditional practices, outdoor skills, and cultural teachings.

The funding is being applied directly to the tools and resources needed for meaningful, skill-building activities. Eighty percent of the award will be used for supplies and equipment, ensuring that participants have access to high-quality materials during weekly events. These include:

  • Archery – Equipment for safe training and target practice.
  • Fishing Fundamentals – Purchase of minnows, structures, and fishing gear to support both learning and real-world application.
  • Hunting & Hunter Safety – Tools and resources that emphasize safety, responsibility, and respect for wildlife.
  • Hide Tanning – Materials that allow youth to learn traditional methods of working with hides, connecting them to cultural knowledge and practices.

The remaining 20% of the funding is dedicated to surveying and evaluation, helping the program track participation, measure the impact of activities, and plan for growth. This ensures that the program remains responsive to community needs and continues to expand opportunities for outdoor engagement.

With this award, the Outdoor Stewardship Program can provide stronger, more accessible experiences for youth and families. From casting a first fishing line to learning the patience of tanning a hide, these activities are more than recreation—they are pathways to confidence, cultural connection, and stewardship of the land.

We thank the National Recreation Foundation for their investment in Wozu and our mission to nurture healthier, more connected communities through the land and traditions of the prairie.
